Sea Chanty Concert On Saturday, September 11, from 2-4pm at the Bement-Billings Museum on Route 38 in Newark Valley, is a concert by Sea Chanty. Come listen to Irish and traditional music, with instrumental and vocal by Chris Koldewey and Joy Bennett.

Antique Appraisal Day On Saturday, September 11, from noon-4pm, Bob Connelly, Certified Antique Appraiser, will do evaluations at $5 per item at the Newark Valley Depot Station on Depot Street in Newark Valley. Refreshments will be available.

Annual Potato Festival On Saturday, September 11, from 9am-4pm, throughout the Town of Richford, will be the annual Potato Festival, rain or shine. Vendors, demonstrations and quilt show as well as foods made from potatoes. The firehouse serves breakfast starting at 8am, and lunch at 11:30am with scalloped potatoes and ham. Free admission and parking.

9/11 Never Forget Memorial Ceremony On Saturday, September 11, at 8:46am, in the Tioga County Courthouse Square in Owego, will be a ceremony to honor the memory of the fallen heroes of 9/11/2001, from the bravest (fire service) and finest (police service) as well as the many thousands of civilian lives that were lost that day. Immediately following the ceremony the VFW Ladies Auxiliary will serve coffee and donuts in the Courthouse Park near the Fireman's monument.

Turkey Dinner On Saturday, September 11, from 3-7:30pm, the Candor Fire Company Auxiliary is doing a turkey dinner with all the fixings as well as a Chinese Auction. Cooper Eugene Eiklor, son of Tonya and Kevin Eiklor, born on July 31, was born with Esophagal Atresia, his esophagus and stomach are not connected. Cooper has at least 3 more months at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. This event is to benefit Cooper.

Book Sale During Candor's Fall Festival, the Friends of the Candor Free Library will be holding their annual 3 day book sale on Thursday, October 7, and Friday, October 8, from 10am-8pm, and on Saturday, October 9, from 10am-4pm. Saturday will also be a bake sale from 10am until closed. Currently the Friends welcome donations of gently used books to be sold at reasonable prices. Company: Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways, Inc. Girl Scouts from across the state will once again discover the power of girls together at veni.vidi.vici. October 9 - October 10, 2010 veni.vidi.vici. is a unique program designed to expose Girl Scouts to a variety of activities that will encourage them to test their skills, try new things, experience healthy lifestyles, make new friends, and much more. Girls in kindergarten through 12th grade will be able to enjoy a wide array of activities, which start Saturday evening with a Kick-Off Dance Party, where the girls will be able to dance to all of their favorite songs. Sessions being offered this year will relate to the new Girl Scout Leadership Journey series, It’s Your Story – Tell It!, the third Journey series for the Girl Scouts. The Journey series engages girls in discovering themselves, connecting with others, and taking action to make the world a better place. Activities girls will be able to participate in include the 24-foot rock wall, swimming, learning about the history of dance, making art projects, and learning other ways to tell their stories. Girls ages 11-18 can enjoy a luxurious spa night and movie night. The Girl Scouts will participate again this year in “Make a Difference Day,” where girls bring one canned good or non-perishable food item which is donated to local food banks.
