Cami McCormick joined CBS News in September, 1998. She is an anchor, based in New York, and a correspondent, who travels both nationally and internationally. During her time at CBS News, McCormick covered the events of September 11th from Ground Zero. She also reported from the Gulf region and Baghdad during the war in Iraq. Her domestic reporting has included hurricanes Charley, Frances and Ivan in Florida in the summer of 2004.
Prior to CBS, McCormick worked as a writer, reporter, producer and anchor for CNN Domestic, International and CNNRadio. In four years, she traveled to a number of important international stories, including the funeral of Princess Diana in London, the deployment of U.S. troops in Bosnia, and the lifting of U.S. travel restrictions in Beirut, Lebanon. She covered the Middle East extensively. She also developed, anchored and produced CNNRadio’s first international newscast, the ”CNNRadio World News Report,” heard in more than 100 countries. It was the winner of the Edward R. Murrow award for “Best Network Newscast” in 1998.
Early in McCormick’s career, she covered the fall of the Berlin Wall, the break-up of the former Yugoslavia, and the former USSR. In the early 1990's, she worked as a freelance reporter for the Associated Press Broadcast Network in Moscow, Russia. McCormick was also an integral part of the first commercial radio station in Moscow, helping to format and program Radio Maximum, and becoming one of the first English-language radio hosts in Russia.
McCormick has been the recipient of three Edward R. Murrow awards. Other honors include two AWRT “Gracie Allen Awards” for September 11th coverage and war coverage, two Associated Press Awards, and a CNN CableAce Award for reporting on Boris Yeltsin’s re-election as Russian President.
